Being pregnant is a blessing for most of women, especially for ones who have been trying and waiting for the baby. Once a woman is positive getting pregnant then the days are starting to change, the journey of 9-full-month is just about to begin.
In first trimester, usually pregnant woman will feel nausea. It is a normal common thing that happened in first months of pregnancy, pregnant woman start to vomit occasionally in first 4-6 weeks. People usually call it as a ‘morning sickness’, though it doesn’t always happen in the morning. Some people even assume that that symptom is a sign of someone is getting pregnant, which is not absolutely true.
The exact cause of the nausea feeling is unknown. Many experts and studies believe that it is related to the HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) level and estrogen level. Its level is increased a lot in multiple pregnancy, and a woman with twin fetus inside usually vomit more than normal ones. While other causes like genetics are still uncertain, many doctors also believe that mostly it is related with psychological condition.
In normal condition, the ‘nausea and vomit’ feeling will be gradually decreasing by the age of 14-16 weeks of pregnancy. If it still happens after the 1st trimester, or if the vomit is becoming worse, then a complete work up should be done. So, hyperemesis gravidarum means the severe form of ‘morning sickness’ that will affect the balance health level of the pregnant mom. The treatment will firstly concern about the need of rest for the affected mother, and replacing the fluids that had been lost before. Some additional antiemetics and antihistamine, and even corticostreoids can be useful in treating a patient. Close monitoring is important in this case.
As long as the pregnant mom can manage to keep some food down, and drink enough fluids, the baby’s health generally won’t be threatened. And a healthy pregnant woman should manage her psychological health also, to bring the holistic well-being for the 9-month-wonderful journey.
